Have a wonderful holiday season!

Crazy Glasses Day on Wednesday of this week!

Congratulations to Emily Sorensen for winning the November Credit Union Drawing!

Secret Santa Shop is being held from Tuesday December 8th through Friday December 11th. We still need a few volunteers, so click on the link below to sign up. 😊
Gift prices range from $.25 to $10.00. It is up to you how much you would like to send with your child. The only rule is that they may not buy for themselves. Envelopes with money should come back to school on Monday the 7th or Tuesday the 8th. Checks can be made out to SJPS. Any left over money will be sent home with your child.

Please send in Toys for Tots to Brown School by December 18. Student council decided that we should give to others during the season. Please consider taking your child to shop for another child who may not receive as many gifts this year as your own child. Remember to send in a new, unwrapped gift with your child and place in it the Toys for Tots box in the crosshall or by the office. Thank you for your generosity.

Brown School News for Nov. 16-20-2015

Announcements
Mrs. Fairchild sought out the resource below to assist you if you are having these discussions at home. Double clicking on the underlined text will take you to some helpful information:
It's hard to shield kids from the terrible and tragic news of the Paris attacks. Between TV and social media, they are likely to come across some aspect of the events. Here are some suggestions for talking to your kids about what they are seeing in the news.
Please consider donating to your child's field trip fund when you come in for conferences.  We are asking for a $5/child donation.  You can leave the donation with the teacher and they can turn it in to Mrs. Martin.

Brown School News for Nov. 9-13, 2015

Credit Union News
Our October drawing winner for Brown Bear CU is Ross Zerbe.  Anyone who makes a deposit during the month is entered into the drawing.  Good luck in November!

Shorts
The weather has cooled down.  Next week, it does not appear that temperatures will be warm enough for shorts.  Please make sure your children comply.  It should be a predicted high temp of 65 degrees or more to wear shorts.

Walk-a-Thon Update
Your Walkathon pledge sheets should have come back last week with your child's lap total. If for some reason your sheet is missing, contact Johanna Brown, johannakbrown@gmail.com. Please gather all the pledges and return them in the provided envelop by Friday Nov 13. If you wanted to donate, but life and all it's craziness prevented you from doing so, it's not too late! You can still turn in a donation and your child can still be in the drawing for a Kindle Fire! We also understand that not everyone is able to donate, so please do not feel pressured by these reminders. We just know how busy life is and we want to make sure that we get the reminders to those who need/want them. Thanks for all your support!

News for Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015

Reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday, is picture re-take day.

If your child needs re-takes, they will have to have their old picture packet to turn in.

If your child was absent that day, you will need an order form.  Mrs. Martin is sending them home today for kids who were absent so check your child’s back pack!  She may also email a form as an attachment to you.

We will also have our rooftop shot sometime in the morning so make sure your child is in school!  The weather should be great for us.

Announcements
The Brown School Breakfast is coming up on October 24, 8:00-11:00 am.  This is a fun opportunity to come and share breakfast with your Brown School family and friends, and be served by some of our great Brown School parents.  Information sheets are coming home today.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Walk-a-Thon: We just wrapped up our second week of the Walkathon and wanted to thank all of the wonderful volunteers who gave of their time so the kids could have a great experience. We have some really impressive walkers/runners out here and right now our top three are Carter Wente with 99 laps, Benson Holleman with 76, and Kole Parrett with 74. Those are some pretty amazing numbers! We are also still accepting blue pledge forms, if you haven't turned one in yet. Remember this is our only PTO fundraiser for the year and we want to make sure we can have all our wonderful activities and help repair the track. Thanks for all of your support!

Halloween is quickly approaching, here are the things you need to know for this year:
All kids can dress up.  Be mindful of costumes and especially those that require make-up.  We are asking that kids are dressed up all day this year so simple is best.  Children may want to go without the make-up or the bulky parts of their costumes for school.  Parties will be at various times and will be scheduled by classroom teachers.  Teachers will decide how many parents can come into their classrooms to help.  All parents are welcome to attend the parade which will be for 1st through 5th grade and hopefully, (weather permitting) will be outside. The parade will begin at 3:20pm and parents may check their kids out with the classroom teacher after the parade.

You can access all approved flyers for activities and events at the Community Corkboard on the district website: http://www.sjschools.org/sjps-parents/community-cork-board-district   This week, there is a Jaier Soccer Spring Supplemental Tryouts Flyer and the Flyer for our Panera Fundraiser Night.

More Brown School News - Oct. 12, 2015

Walk-a-Thon News
We wrapped up our first week of Walkathon and it was a great one! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped it run so smoothly. The kids have been walking/running like crazy and one of our third graders, Carter Wente, is already up to 51 laps. That's 10 miles! And so far Mrs. LoPresti's class is leading with 100% of her students participating all 3 days. We are also making strides towards reaching our PTO goal for the year, but we still need your help if we want to be able to fund all of our activities and repair the track. If you haven't turned in your blue pledge sheet yet it is not too late! We appreciate any donation no matter what the size. Thanks for all your support.

ACCESS
Access is a gathering place for Christian students to meet for about 10 minutes before school (8:15-8:25AM) to hear a positive Christian message and build faith-based relationships.  It will be held in Mrs. DeLapa’s classroom and will meet on the second Tuesday of the month.  Students must have a signed parental permission slip in order to attend.  If you are interested, please contact Christine Castro at gsdragonfly@aol.com .
