It was another great week at Brown School! From welcoming special family members for our annual Donuts with Dads event to Skate Night and our monthly PTO meeting, we were busy connecting with our students and the special people in their lives.

Lego Night will be on Nov. 15th from 6 to 8 pm at Brown School! Plan to join us for a night of fun for the whole family. This annual event offers games, speed builds, robotics demos, prizes and more! Exciting News!
Our very generous St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation recently approved three grants that will have a major impact on our elementary-aged students. Thanks to their dedication to our students and their education, we will welcome the incredibly successful Michigan author and illustrator, Patricia Polacco to our school. Her inspirational journey through literacy is highlighted in such books as Thank You, Mr. Faulker and Mr. Lincoln's Way. More details about her visit are forthcoming.
In addition, we will also be able to purchase large sets of books for classroom libraries, as well as offer a select number of students the opportunity to participate in a summer book study/field trip experience.
We are so grateful for the generosity and support of our Foundation!

Student Support Groups
Two student support groups will be starting soon. Staff from Lory's Place will be here to facilitate a grief support group for students. Mrs. Jasiak will lead "Banana Splits" - a support group for students whose parents are separated or divorced. If you would like your child to participate in either of these groups, please contact Mrs. Jasiak at cjasiak@sjschools.org by Wednesday, November 1st.

Halloween Reminders
Our Halloween parties are scheduled for Tuesday, October 31st, from 2:15-3:15 p.m., unless your child's class has a special at that time. If you are visiting your child's class, please sign in at the office.
Students may bring costumes to change into at last recess. Please be sure your child's costume is appropriate for school and make every effort to send a costume that could be worn over your child's regular clothing. This will help us start our parties on time. No weapons are allowed.
If your child walks or is a car rider, he/she will be dismissed from school in costume. Bus riders will need to take their costumes off and stow them in their backpacks.

Attendance Letters
In effort to align to the truancy policies throughout the county, SJPS will now be mailing letters to families of students that have been absent and/or tardy for more than 10% of the school year to date. The first round of letters will be sent out this week. While we completely understand that there may be extenuating circumstances, please make every effort to ensure your child is in school unless he/she has a fever.
