Thank you for all of your support in making our Walk-a-Thon a HUGE success! Collectively, students walked over 15,000 laps which equates to almost 3,000 miles! All pledges will be due by November 10th and our prize drawing will follow. We look forward to reporting the grand total raised for our school. Go Team Brown! |

Wizard of Oz
Our 1st - 5th graders will be going to SJHS on November 8th to experience some of the magic of the Wizard of Oz. The musical production includes a number of SJPS elementary students in the cast. Please let us know if you do not want your child to attend. The full performances are November 10th @ 7:00 p.m. and November 11th at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m.. Pre-sale tickets are available.
Extended Learning Opportunities
Our Title One Intervention Team works with students in kindergarten through fifth grade to ensure targeted learning toward growth goals in language arts and math. This team is comprised of three dedicated interventionist: Sandy Valensi, Kristi DeVore, and Kelsey Huizenga.
Working in cooperation with our teachers, the para-professionals facilitate small group and individualized instruction outside of the whole-class instructional time. This "standing appointment" time is dedicated to enhancing critical skills in a more intense way. If your child is a candidate for that level of support, the classroom teacher will let you know.
In addition, we are offering students another opportunity for math or reading skill practice within the school day. Your child may be invited to participate in Lunchtime Learning sessions in the computer lab during lunch recess. Utilizing the technology available to us, students will work on customized learning platforms to deepen their problem-solving, fluency, and/or comprehension skills.
Our Halloween parties are scheduled for Tuesday, 10/31, at 2:15-3:15 p.m., unless your child's class has a special at that time. All adults must sign in at the office. Parents must have a background check completed and returned in order to volunteer at the party.
Students may bring costumes to change into at last recess. Please be sure your child's costume is appropriate for school and make every effort to send a costume that could be worn over your child's regular clothing. This will help us start our parties on time. No weapons are allowed.
If your child walks or is a car rider, he/she will be dismissed from school in costume. Bus riders will need to take their costumes off and stow them in their backpacks.
Excused Absences
If your child is ill and needs to visit the doctor during the school day, please ask your doctor for a note. This will excuse the absence and not count against your child's annual attendance.
STUDENT SUPPORT GROUPS
Two student support groups are starting soon. Staff from Lory's Place will be here to facilitate a grief support group for students. Mrs. Jasiak will lead "Banana Splits" - a support group for students whose parents are separated or divorced. If you would like your child to participate in either of these groups, please contact Mrs. Jasiak at cjasiak@sjschools.org by Wednesday, November 1st.
Community Corkboard
Take me to the Community Corkboard now. I want to see what community-based activities, clubs, and sports are available this fall for my child.
