Announcements
Brown School Family,
It’s hard to believe but true . . . Our spring break begins at 12:05 p.m. this Friday.    I am writing to you today to encourage you to make every effort for your child to be in attendance Friday morning.  Not only is it Flip Flop Friday and our reading month movie party, but also it’s an important day in our school year count.  The State of Michigan requires that 75% of our students are present each day we count toward the 180 day requirement.    If we do not meet the required attendance amounts, then next Friday will not be able to count as a school day.
We understand that some of our families will be leaving early for the break due to unchangeable travel arrangements.    If your spring break plans are flexible, we just ask that you help us out by sending your child to school on this special half day.
Thank you!

Student Placement for 2016-2017
As we begin to plan for classes for next year, I want to share the following:
We try to use our best professional judgment to create balanced classes. We consider the following factors when making class lists:
An even distribution of students according to ability;
A fair balance of boys and girls in a classroom;
A fair distribution of students who demand more care and attention from teacher; and,
The mixture of students’ personalities and probable“fit” as a class.
Parents may submit written information about their child for staff to consider for student placement. Specific requests for teachers are not accepted.

Author Visit to Brown School
Paul Orshoski
Children’s Author and Poet
Paul Orshoski, is an educator, children’s author, and poet.  He is a former schoolteacher, coach, and administrator who lives in Sandusky, Ohio.  He writes witty, humorous, rhyming children’s poetry.  He has had twelve children’s books published by Treasure Bay Books. These books are part of Treasure Bay’s “We Read Phonics” series and are designed to make it easy for parents to help their children improve phonics skills and read a decodable story.  Each book combines a fun story with simple games for phonics and sight words.

Some of Mr. Orshoski’s poems have appeared in poetry anthologies and he has also had some published in magazines for children.  Whenever possible, he enjoys making kids giggle during school visits by enthusiastically performing his poems.

Mr. Orshoski will be visiting all three elementary schools at the end of this month.  You can pre-order any of his books by completing the attached order form.

If you would like to purchase a book, please send order form and payment (cash only) to school by Wednesday, March 22. Click here to print Order Form.

Date of Presentation:
Tuesday, March 28 - Brown (AM)
To learn more about Mr. Orshoski, please visit his website: http://paulorshoski.com/
