Summer Learning is Important!
Did you know that just 2-3 hours of practice each week can help keep your child’s skills fresh so that he/she can return to school strong next fall? Reading 20 minutes daily and doing a little math can go a long way. And, summer learning can be fun!

There are many resources online to help families overcome the challenge of motivating kids to do “school work” in the summer. Click here to access a site that provides ideas for overcoming the "summer slide". All SJPS elementary students can access learning software throughout the summer. This means your child can continue to use Core 5, MobyMax, RAZ Kids, and other sites linked in our Symbaloo all summer long. In addition, we are excited to announce our Summer Learning Challenge to students this week. Information will be coming home midweek!

Summer Library Programs
Your local library has a great summer reading program planned for your child! Best of all it is FREE!
Benton Harbor Public Library - Benton Harbor

Lincoln Township Library - Stevensville
Maud Preston Library - St. Joseph

The article linked below is all about summer reading podcasts that go along with this year's Collaborative Summer Library Program reading theme, A Universe of Stories, which is the theme that our local libraries will be using this summer.

A Universe of Podcasts Summer Listening Guide

Brown School Media Center will be open 6/25, 7/30, and 8/14 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 for book checkout. All SJPS elementary students are welcome to check out books during these times. Materials can be returned in the fall.

Summer School Registrations are due now! If your child was invited to attend summer school, please register today! Spots are limited.

We would like to wish Mrs. Valensi a very happy retirement. After supporting our students for over 22 years, she will enjoy some much deserved time with her grandchildren. She will certainly be missed by all!
Medications
Rescue medications (Epi-pens and inhalers) will be sent home on the last day of school with students. All other medications must be picked up by the child's parent in the school office by Friday, June 14th. Any medications left at school after June 14th will be destroyed.

Lost & Found
Please check the lost and found! There are many items that have been left behind this school year. All items remaining on June 12th, will be donated to charity.

Report Cards
Report cards will be mailed home the week of June 10th. If you have not received your child’s report card by Wednesday, June 17th, please contact Mrs. Bawks via email.

School Office Summer Hours
The school office officially closes on June 18th for the summer. Please plan accordingly. For enrollment questions or assistance, please contact our Central Office staff at (269) 926-3100. They are open from 8am-3pm during the summer. The school office will reopen in mid-August.

Upcoming Events
Fifth Grade Breakfast - June 6th: This event is for the students only. Some parents will be in attendance as volunteers.

Awards Assembly - June 7th - Last Day of School: Parents are welcome to attend the awards assembly on the last day of school. We will recognize the accomplishments and contributions of our students and bid farewell to our fifth graders. Seating is limited so plan to arrive early.
Best wishes to our St. Joseph Public Schools graduates!

Moving this summer? Please make sure we have your new address on file so you receive your child’s welcome back packet in August.

Kindergarten screening is June 11th and 12th at Lincoln Elementary School. Enrollment packets are available in the school office, at our Central Office, and on the St. Joseph Public Schools website. Please make every effort to have your child attend the assigned screening session. The screening format has changed and no individual screening sessions are being scheduled. Enrollment paperwork can be turned into the office as soon as it is completed. It is our goal to have all of the enrollment paperwork collected BEFORE the screening dates in June.
