News for the Week of April 26, 2021

Spring is in the air and we continue to commit to high levels of learning for all. We have the gift of May to finish this year strong. We are so proud of the growth our students continue to make while faced with the adversity this pandemic has delivered. Daily Health Screening
Thank you for your continued adherence to our daily screening guide posted on our district website before sending your child to school. If he/she is exhibiting any symptoms consistent with COVID-19, they must stay home. It is imperative that we work together to safe safe so that we can stay together.

If someone in your home is awaiting results of a COVID-19 test, all students need to stay home from school until the results are in. Thank you for your attention to this.

Spring Testing
Our fifth grade students have been busy confidently showing what they've learned through their participation in the Science M-STEP test this week. They will continue to work through the other three required subject-area assessments throughout the month. Our third and fourth graders may begin as early as this week and will have until June 4th to complete the required Mathematics and ELA assessments. Additionally, all of our kindergarten - fifth grade students will engage in NWEA testing this week and next.  Results of that assessment will be mailed home in your child's third trimester report card. M-STEP reports are sent by the State when available. Please see your child's teacher's blog for additional information related to dates/times for testing sessions.

We greatly appreciate families limiting non-essential appointments during the scheduled testing sessions. Additionally, as with every day, thank you for providing extra words of encouragement, ensuring quality sleep the night before, and for providing a healthy breakfast each day.

Did you know the Brown PTO has an account at Sports44 on Cleveland Ave?  If you are looking to donate some of your used sporting equipment, shoes, or even spirit wear (SJ Bears or college/professional teams), please consider dropping it off at Sports44 and asking that it be sold under the Brown PTO account!

Also, if you know of a student who needs help acquiring sports equipment, they can shop under the Mike Wagner Fund at Sports44.  This is open to students of any age, just mention the fund when you go in and they will help you find what you need.

Thank you for supporting a local business AND our school!

Attention 5th Grade parents! One of the Fifth Grade Farewell traditions is to have a display of baby pictures and guess who is who. We will do this a bit differently this year, but we will still need a baby picture and a recent picture of all our 5th graders. You can upload pictures here: Fifth Grade Farewell Baby Pics

Also, just a reminder to send in $10 for your fifth grader for the celebration. Money can be given to their teacher.

Attention all virtual students!! We love seeing what you have been learning in your virtual classrooms!

Please continue to share your pictures with us on our Facebook page in the Brown Bears Virtual Learning album.

Lost and Found
As students dress in layers, they also tend to shed those layers during recess. Please be sure to clearly label your child's sweatshirts, jackets, etc. so that our Lost & Found does not grow as quickly as the spring flowers. Thank you!
