From Mrs. Fairchild (School Social Worker)
Before break, we finished discussing the Be Responsible portion of our Bear Necessities in all the classrooms.  We have reviewed the words/actions of the week and in the older grades, your sons/daughters should have brought home a Find Someone Who paper to help them to tell you about what we’ve been learning.  The younger grades made a paper chain with the words on it that we hung in the hall.  The words we have been discussing are: be honest, be dependable, be persistent, be a good citizen, be assertive, be willing to compromise, be willing to ask for help, and be considerate.  Hopefully by the time your child is in 5th grade, they will have a good understanding of these terms.

Now that we have returned from break, we will start on the Be Respectful portion of our Bear Necessities. This includes: be respectful of yourself & others, be respectful of places & things, be empathetic, be a positive role model, be accepting of differences, be willing to include others, be cooperative & be humble.

Crazy Glasses Day on Wednesday of this week!

Congratulations to Emily Sorensen for winning the November Credit Union Drawing!

Secret Santa Shop is being held from Tuesday December 8th through Friday December 11th. We still need a few volunteers, so click on the link below to sign up. 😊
Gift prices range from $.25 to $10.00. It is up to you how much you would like to send with your child. The only rule is that they may not buy for themselves. Envelopes with money should come back to school on Monday the 7th or Tuesday the 8th. Checks can be made out to SJPS. Any left over money will be sent home with your child.

Please send in Toys for Tots to Brown School by December 18. Student council decided that we should give to others during the season. Please consider taking your child to shop for another child who may not receive as many gifts this year as your own child. Remember to send in a new, unwrapped gift with your child and place in it the Toys for Tots box in the crosshall or by the office. Thank you for your generosity.

Brown School News for Nov. 16-20-2015

Announcements
Mrs. Fairchild sought out the resource below to assist you if you are having these discussions at home. Double clicking on the underlined text will take you to some helpful information:
It's hard to shield kids from the terrible and tragic news of the Paris attacks. Between TV and social media, they are likely to come across some aspect of the events. Here are some suggestions for talking to your kids about what they are seeing in the news.
Please consider donating to your child's field trip fund when you come in for conferences.  We are asking for a $5/child donation.  You can leave the donation with the teacher and they can turn it in to Mrs. Martin.

Our Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon is on Monday. Unfortunately, because of the structure of the event, this is NOT a day when parents can come in to have lunch with their child.

Brown School News for Nov. 9-13, 2015

Credit Union News
Our October drawing winner for Brown Bear CU is Ross Zerbe.  Anyone who makes a deposit during the month is entered into the drawing.  Good luck in November!

Shorts
The weather has cooled down.  Next week, it does not appear that temperatures will be warm enough for shorts.  Please make sure your children comply.  It should be a predicted high temp of 65 degrees or more to wear shorts.

Walk-a-Thon Update
Your Walkathon pledge sheets should have come back last week with your child's lap total. If for some reason your sheet is missing, contact Johanna Brown, johannakbrown@gmail.com. Please gather all the pledges and return them in the provided envelop by Friday Nov 13. If you wanted to donate, but life and all it's craziness prevented you from doing so, it's not too late! You can still turn in a donation and your child can still be in the drawing for a Kindle Fire! We also understand that not everyone is able to donate, so please do not feel pressured by these reminders. We just know how busy life is and we want to make sure that we get the reminders to those who need/want them. Thanks for all your support!
