What a fabulous start to our 2018-19 school year! From getting to know our new learners to modeling and practicing our procedures and routines, it was a busy week at Brown School! We are looking forward to learning even more about our students and their individual strengths and next steps as we complete our beginning of year assessments in the coming days and weeks. Thank you for your partnership to ensure the year began strong.

News from the Kitchen
When sending in lunch money, please place cash or checks in an envelope, clearly marked with your child's first and last name, as well as the classroom teacher's name. Checks may be written to St. Joseph Public Schools. Envelopes should be given to classroom teachers. If you have more than one child in the school/district and would like the money to be split amongst them, please feel free to write one check and designate where the money should be distributed.
Email notifications can be sent to you weekly, once a child's lunch account is below a certain amount. To activate this service, please email Sue Punches (spunches@sjschools.org).
In effort to ensure equity in our school lunchroom and out of respect for our hardworking kitchen staff, we ask that fast food NOT be brought in for students to enjoy during lunch. Thank you for your understanding.
Please visit our new Little Library located outside of the school office!
Here's how it works: take a book, read it, return it for someone else to enjoy and get a new one (or keep it if you love it and are in need of more books at home). With permission from families, students can also bring books from their home libraries that they no longer read and place them in the little library for others to enjoy.
Confidential Volunteer Consent Forms
Any volunteer that works with our students must submit a confidential volunteer consent form annually. Forms can be given to Sara Codde in the office. Click here to access the form.School Safety and Security
If you have had the opportunity to visit our school during school hours, you would have noticed that our buzzer system is in tact. This additional element of building security is intended to keep your children safe. You will need to press the buzzer from 8:45 a.m. until 3:40 p.m. in order to enter the building.
If you are picking your child(ren) up at the end of the school day and would like to wait inside in the vestibule, please wait until after 3:40. As always, our building will not be accessible without signing in until after school hours.
Thank you for your patience as we are all getting used to the new routine of requesting access to our school office.
Drop-off and Pick-up Reminders
Following these few reminders will help all of us get on our way in the morning, and most importantly, will help to ensure a safer parking lot for our children. Click here to view our drop-off/pick-up procedure screencast.
- Please pull all the way up along the curb so that multiple cars can stage at once.
- Students must exit the car on the right side for safety.
- If walking your child to/from the parked car, please walk him/her in front of the main office doors, not between cars along the curb. Children may not walk alone through the lot to meet you.
Thank you for your patience, especially in the first couple of weeks, as we all familiarize ourselves with the process.
