Maker Day: We will be having two Maker Days at Brown School! Volunteers do not need any Maker Day/STEM experience, as they will be assisting in classrooms and with students, not leading sessions. Come join us for this exciting learning experience!

Community Corkboard
- Media Center: Help in the Media Center is a continuing need. If you are interested in assisting with book returns, check-out, re-shelving books and class activity centers, please fill out a volunteer form and we will contact you. You choose which shifts (45 minutes per shift) you would like to sign up for - the teachers for each shift are listed so you can coordinate with your student’s time in the Media Center. The signup has been updated with 3rd - 5th grade spots through Spring Break. Please note: the dates are subject to change. https://signup.com/go/gAFMxHJ
Book Fair: The Scholastic Book Fair will be in the Media Center on March 23 - 27th. Signup.com has been set up for the book fair. Here is the link to sign up and volunteer: https://signup.com/go/zBVJziL. We will need help with the preview day, March 20, as well as ringing up sales during the fair. As Scholastic is a much bigger fair than the last fair, a little help packing up the fair to send back would be appreciated.
- Mileage Club: We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to lead our Mileage Club for the next school year. This will be separate from the Walkathon fundraiser and will be a two week event in both the fall and spring. Anyone interested will have the opportunity to shadow the committee this spring to understand what it all entails. March is Reading Month 2020
Reading Saves the Day!
We are so excited to kick off March is Reading Month this year with our theme, Reading Saves the Day! We have a variety of reading challenges, character-building ideas, STEM activities, and a fun "Superhero of the Week" guessing game to play daily. Plus, your child will hear about some real-life superheroes through stories that will be shared each week.
Our challenge will be to read daily and participate in a number of reading adventures to keep The Sinister Story Swiper (villain) from stealing our books.
Goals
- To promote lifelong reading habits
- To motivate and encourage reading for enjoyment
- To create opportunities for adults and children to share time reading
- To learn about real-life superheroes around our world
- To focus on superhero traits and how we can be the best version of ourselves
All students will be given a superhero identity card that they will use to keep track of their reading this month. The choices for upper elementary will focus on literary genres. The lower elementary choices will include genres as well as fun reading adventures. Each week, these will be collected and stamped. Raffle tickets will be given for each square completed and students will be able to put their name into the drawing for various reading-related prizes (books, books, and more books)!
Classrooms will work to build positive character traits through powering up a classroom shield. Each classroom teacher will be given a shield to hang in their classroom and a set of 12 badges that classes can earn for showing superhero traits, such as; teamwork, courage, and kindness.

| The Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program is a free service that is offered to families in Berrien County who are pregnant or have children under the age of three. The first three years of a child's life are ESSENTIAL for laying a strong and positive foundation in all areas of their lives - education, health, behavior, and relationships. Because those first few years are so important, parents are a child's FIRST and MOST INFLUENTIAL teachers! Parents as Teachers playgroup meets at Brown School once per month.
