News for the Week of March 21, 2022

 

Throughout last week and into this week classes have focused on the P2 character strength "love of learning". They have learned that those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They don’t need a prize of a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving.

Developing a love of learning is highly beneficial for an individual. It means that they are intrinsically motivated to deepen their existing skills and abilities, or learn something completely new. Since intrinsically motivated action is correlated with positive emotions, those who act on their love of learning may also have enhanced mental and physical health. Additionally, individuals who love learning have the desire and ability to overcome challenges, due to a sense of autonomy and control over their environment.

To practice and encourage the character strength of love of learning with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

We would like to remind everyone that breakfast and lunch are FREE again this year to every St. Joseph Public School student. Please try to remember to preorder your student’s lunches when they are going to participate in lunch.  This helps speed up the morning lunch count process.  You will be allowed to order the Friday before the next week using www.sendmoneytoschool.com.

Our second graders recently traveled to Sarret Nature Center to learn about how maple sugar is made. Thank you to all of our family volunteers who joined the classes on the trip.

5th Grade Parents Special Dates Coming Up

• We are needing everyone to send your child’s baby picture for the “Guess Who” display. You can email it to Brooke Roberts at Blr182010@gmail.com.  We need those before March 1st please. If you are unable to email us a picture please send a hard copy with your student, no larger than 4x6, and we will make a copy of it and return it to you.

 

Also if you have not donated your $15 towards our funding for the ceremony & t-shirts please do (check email from your childs’ teacher about “Oscar Night”).

Bucks for Brown is Looking Ahead

We are looking for a few more people to round out our Bucks for Brown committee.  These roles would be in planning next year’s event and helping secure business sponsors for next year.  

We also are looking for a couple of people who would be interested in heading up the spring picnic together.  This year would be spent working with the current chair, and next year the new leads would take over.

Brown Bear Credit Union is open every Friday from 8:20-8:45. Brown Bear Student CU offers great incentives to promote good saving habits for students. All new members will receive $15 if they open their membership with at least $1 (membership forms are available at the Brown Bear Student CU table or in the school office). All existing members will receive $5 for making their first deposit at Brown Bear Student CU. There is a prize box so students can choose a prize with every deposit. Every deposit is entered into a monthly drawing to win a gift basket with a $10 Meijer gift card. Every deposit is also entered into an annual drawing to win an iPad Mini at the end of the school year!

We are looking for stories about all education personnel – teachers, bus drivers, school lunch staff, paraprofessionals, custodians, coaches, librarians, administrative assistants, and anyone who is an important part of a student’s educational success.
